This client hired us for our expertise in sustainable, energy-efficient buildings. On a steep hillside near Medellín, the house opens to views of almost 270 degrees while keeping solar heat out.

A steep site, a stunning view. A house designed to stay cool.

The goal was to minimize solar heat gain and with it the need for air conditioning. Orientation, overhangs and louvers do the work that machines would otherwise do.

Located on the edge of a steep hillside, the project brought structural challenges. Concrete pillars were set deep into the ground to create the base for a proper foundation.

The project

Two wings and a deck with a view.

The home has a generous entertaining space, a private owner’s suite, and a guest bedroom wing with an office, linked by a glazed hallway along the view.

A large deck with an outdoor kitchen makes the most of the views and of outdoor living.
