River Rock

River Rock was the last residential design of Frank Lloyd Wright. This house was built on the site it was originally designed for, based on the original drawings. Quadriga’s Joe Myers and Rob Shearer were the team chosen to bring this important building to life. From municipal approvals and code research to helping the mother-daughter self performing General Contractor through construction.

Quadriga helped ensure that the details and construction adhered as closely as possible to Frank Lloyd Wright’s original design intent. This project was featured in a four part documentary which is now streaming on HBO Max called “The Last Wright”.

One of the greatest challenges of this project was keeping the aesthetic of Mr. Wright’s window design while meeting modern day energy codes. Single pane glazing was updated to double-pane insulated glazing units. This meant that the frames needed to be routed deeper in order ro hide the spacer between the glass panes while keeping the ⅜” glazing stop on the exterior, which protrudes slightly and is an important design element. The detail where the glass meets the ceiling also needed to be updated to maintain Wright’s continuity between exterior and interior
