We bring creativity and expertise to everything we do
This project was surely one of the most exciting design challenges in our career. An unexpected call from a couple on Cebu Island in the Philippines reached out, after following us for years on social media.
The wish list included open plan, double height living area, dining room, a formal kitchen and a so-called dirty kitchen for the hard work. Two home offices for each of the owners, a principal bedroom suite on the second floor, a gym in the upstairs gallery, a guest bedroom and even a photo studio
The building had to be energy efficient and needed a whole house ventilation system with dehumidification, UV pollen filter and air conditioning to keep the blistering heat out and create a comfortable indoor climate.
Triple-glazed European windows and a EIFS stucco system helped to keep the house cool.
A 21 kW solar array adds significantly to the energy efficiency
Other challenges were of structural nature. Being located on the “ring of fire” the building is exposed to earthquakes, which required significant structural upgrades as well as very destructive typhoons.
